THE ACTORS’ FUND OF CANADA: A GREAT ORGANIZATION
CELEBRATES 50 YEARS IN 2008

Awareness and fundraising campaign to make Actors' Fund
most connected, respected, supported

For Immediate Release: September 17, 2007

TORONTO - The Actors' Fund of Canada celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2008 and will take its place among the most connected, respected and supported charities serving members of Canada's entertainment industry with a year-long awareness and fundraising campaign.

The Actors' Fund provides emergency financial aid to professionals performing or working behind the scenes in theatre, film & television, music or dance. Founded by six members of Toronto's theatre community in 1958, the organization has since expanded its mandate and served over 10,000 clients across Canada in a wide variety of entertainment industry disciplines.

Actors' Fund Executive Director David Hope aims to reach all members of the entertainment industry with the campaign, including performers in all disciplines, creators, directors, writers, technicians, theatre companies, dance companies, film & TV companies, musical ensembles and industry unions and guilds.

Says Hope to culture industry members, "We will use this opportunity to show what we do on your behalf to bring vital assistance to your friends and colleagues who are in trouble. This Fund is YOUR Fund - it's not just us doing this for you: it's you doing it for yourself. We want you to see how your support of the Actors' Fund makes your community - and Canada - stronger."

Plans for the many components of the Fund's year-long 50th anniversary project will roll out in the coming weeks, with a focus on showing how the Actors' Fund can change lives and on encouraging entertainment industry members to adopt the Fund as their charity of choice. Further details will be announced on the Fund's web site at www.actorsfund.ca as they are available.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that provides short-term financial aid to entertainment industry professionals working in theatre, film & TV, music and dance. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can apply for help from the Fund, which delivers over $400,000 in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses to clients annually and has provided over $3 million in emergency financial aid in the last 10 years.

The Actors' Fund receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
