REGINA - As ACTRA Saskatchewan's Branch Council celebrates the branch's 40th anniversary, it has announced a $1,000 contribution to the health and welfare of ACTRA members through a donation to the Actors' Fund of Canada. $500 of the donation is made in memory of ACTRA Saskatchewan member Tibor Feheregyhazi, who died in July 2007.

The Actors' Fund is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry, providing over $400,000 a year in emergency financial aid to performers and other entertainment workers in film & TV, theatre, music and dance recovering from an illness, injury or other serious financial setback. In 2008 the Fund marks 50 years of service to entertainment industry members with efforts focused on raising awareness of its emergency financial aid program and uniting Canada's arts community in support of the organization.

Commenting on ACTRA Saskatchewan's support, Actors' Fund Executive Director David Hope says, "We are tremendously pleased that ACTRA Saskatchewan has made this investment in the Actors' Fund. The Fund is 50 years old, but we are a still a small organization with a big job to do in a huge country. Awareness is key to our success in serving entertainment industry workers, wherever they are located in Canada. We have done a lot of work on raising profile at the national level, but the support of individual ACTRA branches helps to give a local focus to our efforts. We hope ACTRA Saskatchewan's involvement with the Fund this year will mean that more of its members will know that the Fund is something they have a stake in and can benefit from."

Adds ACTRA Saskatchewan Branch Manager Mike Burns, "We are happy to do our part in supporting the Actors' Fund, which has been of service to so many ACTRA members and other entertainment workers over the last 50 years. In its work the Actors' Fund shows generosity, community-mindedness and a dedication to the artist. These were qualities that made Tibor such a treasure to all of us in the Saskatchewan arts community and we thought it fitting to associate his name with the Fund's humanitarian ethic. We look forward to a closer relationship with the Actors' Fund from this point on."

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that has provided over $3 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses to entertainment industry members in distress in the last 10 years. The Actors' Fund receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
