TORONTO - Entertainment industry support for the Actors' Fund of Canada continues to build as Actra Fraternal Benefit Society (AFBS) announces a $75,000 contribution to the Fund. An earlier donation in November 2007 boosts total AFBS support for the Fund to $115,000 during the Fund's current fiscal year, which ends in March 2008.

The Actors' Fund is Canada's is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry and marks its 50th anniversary in 2008.The Fund provides over $400,000 a year in emergency financial aid to performers and other entertainment workers in film & TV, theatre, music and dance recovering from an illness, injury or other serious financial setback.

Actra Fraternal Benefit Society (AFBS) is a not-for-profit, member-owned, federally incorporated insurance company operating for over 25 years. Members of the Society are primarily members of ACTRA and The Writers Guild of Canada. AFBS services to members include life and health insurance, supplementary health care coverage and funding for scholarships, retirement home/care facilities and funeral expenses. A separate Retirement Fund provides various registered retirement savings plans and a registered retirement income fund to members.

Commenting on its most recent instalment of support for the Fund, AFBS President and CEO Robert M. Underwood remarked "Our Board of Governors strongly supports the Actors' Fund. Our two organizations complement each other, often working hand in hand to assist members who find themselves in extreme financial distress. Actra Fraternal congratulates the Fund on fifty years of outstanding service to entertainment industry members and we wish them many more years of great success."

Adds Actors' Fund Executive Director David Hope "I cannot overstate the importance of Actra Fraternal's ongoing support of the Actors' Fund. Their annual - and very substantial - contributions help to form the financial bedrock that has allowed us to cope with the doubling of the demand on our resources that we have experienced over the last six years. The fact that AFBS also subsidizes our operations by donating office space and the excellent, collaborative relationship we have with its staff and Board are more evidence of the wonderful partnership that has grown between our two organizations. We are very grateful for Actra Fraternal's support and we look forward to this partnership continuing for many years to come."

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that has provided over $3 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses to entertainment industry members in distress in the last 10 years. The Actors' Fund receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
