According to Artistic Director Max Reimer, "we tell stories of heart, humour and humanity that shape and describe our experiences in Hamilton, Ontario and Canada, much like the Actors' Fund which provides hope to people in times of trouble. Large or small, I encourage all theatres to support the Actors' Fund of Canada through 'curtain speeches' or by hosting an annual benefit. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008, the Actors' Fund of Canada provides immediate short-term emergency financial assistance for artists and entertainment workers affected by illness, injury or other financial setback. Demand on the Fund is over 30% higher than it was at this time last year. Industry professionals such as writers, technical staff, performers and other production team members can apply to the Actors' Fund for help which delivers over $400,000 in rent payments, grocery money, medical costs, utility payments and other basic living expenses annually. Now in its 35th season as Hamilton's professional theatre, Theatre Aquarius has 8,500 subscribers and over 100,000 patrons. Says Reimer, "The Actors' Fund is a national organization dedicated to helping entertainment industry professionals at a time when help is needed most. I too will continue my commitment to support the Actors' Fund in my new position of Artistic Managing Director of Vancouver's Playhouse Theatre Company".
