TORONTO - The Actors' Fund of Canada is thrilled to announce that Enrico Colantoni, star of the hit show, Flashpoint has donated the proceeds of an acting workshop to the Fund. The workshop was aimed at actors looking to improve their craft by learning new techniques for making artistic choices. The class quickly filled up, with eight people signed up for the sessions that took place over the course of three weekends in March. Proceeds from the workshop came to $2,200 making it a successful event for participants and the Actors' Fund alike.

"Sometimes you sign on to a project that you love and have the good fortune to see it do well, but often even the most fantastic project can end up nowhere due to unpredictable factors" said Mr. Colantoni. "The Actors' Fund is a wonderful resource for everybody in our industry, helping to mitigate some of the risks we take in pursuit of our art. Donating to the Fund helps to strengthen the entire community, giving us all a place to turn to when the unexpected happens." Executive Director of the Fund, David Hope remarked "We're very grateful for Enrico's generosity, the donation of his time and skills will go a long way to providing assistance to artists in crisis situations."

The Actors' Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund, which recently set a new record for the amount of financial aid delivered to industry members in a single year, topping $600,000 in 2009. The Fund has helped over 10,000 entertainment industry workers recover from illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship since it was founded in 1958.

The Fund is a registered charity that has paid out over $3.7 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which receives no major government funding and is sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
