TORONTO - On September 2nd, luminaries from the entertainment world descended on Toronto's St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts to attend The Curtain Rises, an event celebrating a new relationship between cosmetics industry leader Cover FX Skincare Inc. and the Actors' Fund of Canada.

Skin Prep FX is Cover FX's top selling foundation primer. It is a nourishing foundation primer and anti-aging serum that hydrates and smoothes skin to blur the appearance of lines and pores, facilitates blending and extends wear. A portion of the proceeds from every unit of Skin Prep FX sold in Canada will be donated to the Fund. The product is available at retailers Shoppers Drug Mart, The Bay and Sephora.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund, which recently set a new record for the amount of financial aid delivered to industry members in a single year, topping $600,000 in 2008. The Fund has helped over 10,000 entertainment industry workers recover from illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship since it was founded in 1958.

Among those on hand at the launch were television personalities Rick Mercer and Jeanne Beker, actor Colin Mochrie, rising stars Brittany Gray, Kate Spurgeon and Amanda Brugel and Emmy® Award-winning makeup artist and Actors' Fund Board member Donald Mowat. Actors Shirley Douglas, Wendy Crewson, Kristin Booth, Barbara Mamabolo and Louis Negin along with singer Jackie Richardson are key participants in the Cover FX promotional campaign and shone their collective "star power" on the proceedings.

Speaking on behalf of her company, Cover FX President Lee Graff said: "Cover FX is delighted to contribute a portion of proceeds from Skin Prep FX in Canada to this very worthy cause that supports the artist community. Commencing immediately, all Skin Prep FX packaging will have a special label indicating this collaboration. We are hoping this will create more awareness about the Actors' Fund and inspire our customers to support the performing arts."

Expressing his enthusiasm for the company's move to assist entertainment industry members in need, Actors' Fund President Barry Flatman remarked, "It is wonderful to be in a cooperative venture with such an enlightened company - one that understands the benefits that come from giving. Ventures like this open up a whole new vista for the Fund in partnerships, and we welcome the opportunity."

The Actors' Fund is a registered charity that has paid out over $3.7 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
