TORONTO - The Directors' Guild of Canada (DGC) National Office has renewed its support for the Actors' Fund by making a $15,000 contribution for 2009.

DGC National Executive Director and CEO Brian Anthony commented on the contribution, saying: "We will continue to make supporting the Actors' Fund a priority as we recognize that a well supported Actors' Fund is beneficial to all DGC members and to everybody who works in our industry. We would strongly encourage every industry organization to make a contribution to the Actors' Fund an annual priority."

Actors' Fund Executive Director, David Hope adds, "We could not do the work we do without the vital support of organizations such as the DGC. Demand on the Fund's resources has tripled in the last ten years. These contributions allow us to keep pace with the growing demand on the Fund and to continue providing assistance to entertainment professionals who find themselves in a crisis situation."

The Directors' Guild of Canada is a labour organization that represents over 3,800 key logistical and creative personnel in the film and television industry covering all areas of production, design, and editing. The DGC negotiates and administers all collective agreements and lobbies extensively on all issues of concern for members, including Canadian content conditions, CRTC regulations and ensuring that funding is maintained for Canadian film and television programming.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund, which recently set a new record for the amount of financial aid delivered to industry members in a single year, topping $600,000 in 2008. The Fund has helped over 10,000 entertainment industry workers recover from illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship since it was founded in 1958.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that has paid out over $3.7 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which receives no major government funding and is sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
