TORONTO - Performer and composer Doug Price will be showcasing some of his newest work on Monday December 14 in a benefit concert for the Actors' Fund of Canada. Nine vocalists, along with Price on piano, a bassist and a drummer will perform "Colours & Textures", a new song-cycle by the promising up-and-comer.

Price is a recent graduate of the Sheridan Musical Theatre Performance Program where he honed his skills as a performer while maintaining a regular and intense discipline of writing and composing. The recipient of multiple awards including a Youth in Motion "Top 20 Under 20 Award", as well as the Fen Watkin Scholarship of Music from the Charlottetown Festival, this new song-cycle is sure to be a milestone for the young writer.

On his decision to make the concert a benefit for the Fund, Price said "Despite the name, the Actors' Fund really is there to support everybody in the entertainment industry. Musicians, composers and singers are all able to apply for assistance, something many people in this field aren't aware of. By making this concert a benefit, I wanted to spread the word that the Fund is there to help us all while raising money for an organization that has done so much to help so many Canadian artists."

Tickets for the show are $15 and are available through the Berkley Street Theatre box office at (416) 368-3110.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund, which recently set a new record for the amount of financial aid delivered to industry members in a single year, topping $600,000 in 2008. The Fund has helped over 10,000 entertainment industry workers recover from illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship since it was founded in 1958.

The Fund is a registered charity that has paid out over $3.7 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which receives no major government funding and is sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
