TORONTO - Actors' Fund of Canada President Graham Harley is delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Harbury to the Fund's Board of Directors.
With a film and television career spanning more than twenty-five years, and including credits as Writer, Director, Executive Producer, Producer and Broadcast Executive on productions of all types, Mr. Harbury is currently a Film & Television Consultant with the Ontario Media Development Corporation, where he creates and delivers programs and coordinates market development initiatives on behalf of the Ontario Government. Mr. Harbury has been a member of the CFTPA bargaining team for IPA negotiations with ACTRA and with the Writers' Guild of Canada. He has played a leading role on the Board of the Academy of Canadian Film and Television and has served on several Ontario Arts Council Film Juries.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008, the Actors' Fund is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. The Fund provides vital financial aid to workers in film & TV, theatre, music and dance to help with their recovery from an illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship.
Of Mr. Harbury's appointment, Mr. Harley comments, "Martin is a splendid addition to the Board. As with Maria Topalovich, who joined the Board in November, his expertise in the worlds of film and television will make an invaluable contribution to the Fund's future initiatives. In this, our 50th year of operation, we look forward enthusiastically to forging new connections with producers of screen-based media as part of our ongoing expansion of service to the entertainment industry as a whole."
Mr. Harbury adds, "I am very pleased to join this excellent organization that has been of such value to the Canadian entertainment industry. I hope in some way to use my background in film & television production to raise the Actors' Fund's profile among producers and to help to bring people and resources together in support of this great institution."
Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which has paid out over $3 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity. It receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
