Every Friday we collect $5.00 from crew members on our shoot - we call it "Five Dollar Friday". We do a draw and whoever wins gets the pot which is usually around $300.00 to $500.00. Why not split the pot with the Actors' Fund? The money for the Actors' Fund could be given to the production manager and they could send it on. I think that a lot of film crews would go for this if they were told about it.

Here's an idea called "Five for the Fund". The premise is this: it has long been a tradition in our industry that the theatre community is let into shows (if there are empty seats) on a free, or substantially discounted basis.

In fact, this is the only way many of us can afford to see shows. For some reason, this practice is slipping. It seems that fewer and fewer theatres are willing to seat theatre insiders for free, and even the Equity discounts seem to be dropping away.

How about proposing a scheme where theatres charge $10 as a rush seat, for anyone who can demonstrate that they are "in the biz". Five bucks would go to the theatre, for expenses, and five would go to the Fund. This would fill seats otherwise left vacant, and feed the Fund, and encourage artistic cross-pollination in the industry, and all sorts of things. Maybe the amount is wrong, but for those theatres who cringe at the idea of giving away anything for free, perhaps this would be an attractive answer.
