Comprising the proceeds from a selected performance of Coriolanus and the admissions from the Festival's Through the Workshop Window series, Stratford's 2006 donation continues a long tradition of support for the Fund's efforts to bring emergency financial aid to entertainment industry workers. The Festival has donated $182,627.14 to the Actors' Fund since 2001. Its annual Actors' Fund benefit performances make it the biggest annual donor to the Fund in Canadian theatre. Says Actors' Fund Executive Director David Hope, "The fact that the Stratford Festival makes support for the Fund a priority every year - without question - is immensely gratifying. They set a great example by doing this. There are lots of great charities to support, but when it comes to the lives of theatre workers and their ability to sustain themselves in this business - sometimes against incredible odds - there is no charity that is more personal, more relevant, than the Actors' Fund." The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that provides short-term financial aid to entertainment industry professionals working in theatre, film & TV, music and dance. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can apply for help from the Fund which delivered over $400,000 in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses to clients in the last 12 months and over $3 million in the last 10 years.
