Actors' Fund ask you to "Share Your Gift" through
Opening Night Donation Campaign

For Immediate Release

In an effort to encourage more donations in lieu of Opening Night gifts in Canadian theatres, the Actors' Fund of Canada is launching the "Share Your Gift" Campaign. The campaign consists of a poster and donation card package to be displayed on theatre callboards across the country starting this summer.

"A donation to the Actors' Fund in honour of a friend or colleague in the show is already a popular Opening Night gift", says Actors' Fund Executive Director David Hope. "People choose it because it's a cause they want to support, it's easy to do and, after all, what better time to help out a less fortunate colleague than when you're celebrating your own success on Opening Night? In launching this campaign we wanted to offer this idea to other people who may not have considered it."

The Fund will acknowledge donations made through the "Share Your Gift" campaign with a card to the recipient stating that a donation has been made in his or her honour. For those who need to make a last-minute gift for Opening Night, the Fund will send a celebratory fax to the theatre acknowledging a gift made by an individual to another company member or in honour of the whole company.

"Theatre has many great traditions," says Hope. "Let's make giving to the Actors' Fund on Opening Night one of them."

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that provides short-term financial aid to entertainment industry professionals working in theatre, film & TV, music or dance. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can apply for help from the Fund which delivered over $400,000 in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses to clients in the last 12 months and over $3 million in the last 10 years.

The Actors' Fund receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
