TORONTO - The Actors' Fund of Canada announced today that six Toronto talent agencies: Caldwell/Jeffery, Gary Goddard Agency, The Messinger Agency, Oscars Abrams Zimel & Associates, Parent Management and The Talent House racked up a combined total of $6,500 in contributions to the Fund during the fourth quarter of 2009.

Along with making a personal donation, Fran Messinger at the Messinger Agency encouraged her clients to participate in her annual effort to raise money for the Fund by making donations of their own. This year, her efforts were aided by donations from sponsors such as 680 News, London's Grand Theatre and BMO who donated prizes for a raffle she ran as an incentive for clients to drop by the agency, where donations were being collected. Louise Parent at Parent Management made a donation in honour of her clients as did Gary Goddard Agency, which carried on its tradition of making gifts to the Fund in celebration of all of its clients' opening nights. The partners at Oscars Abrams Zimel & Associates, Caldwell/Jeffery and Bruce Dean at The Talent House all made personal donations to the Fund.

On the agency contributions, Fund Executive Director David Hope commented "We are delighted to have the support of these terrific organizations. Through their faithful support of the Actors' Fund they have once again demonstrated their dedication to serving the industry and their commitment to the wellbeing of the people who work in it. As we move deeper into the winter we expect to see an increased demand on the Fund. These donations will go a long way towards helping us meet the many requests for assistance we expect to receive in the coming months."

The Actors' Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund, which recently set a new record for the amount of financial aid delivered to industry members in a single year, topping $600,000 in 2008. The Fund has helped over 10,000 entertainment industry workers recover from illness, injury or other circumstances causing severe economic and personal hardship since it was founded in 1958.

The Actors' Fund of Canada is a registered charity that has paid out over $3.7 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which receives no major government funding and is sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
